La teoría de sistemas en desarrollo: una vía para resolver la tensión entre las perspectivas “internalista” y “externalista” en la biología evolutiva

Resumen

La teoría de sistemas en desarrollo (TSD) define una vía para solucionar el debate “externalismo/internalismo” en las teorías de la evolución abriendo el camino hacia una síntesis expandida. Para justificar que la epigénesis y la auto-organización (AO) son condiciones previas a la selección natural (SN), utilizaré la idea de las especies como individuos, la cual permite equiparar las etapas de especiación propuestas por Flegr con las etapas caracterizadas por Salthe para todo sistema en desarrollo: i) juvenil –plástica, sin constricciones-, ii) madurez –constreñimientos estructurales positivos–, y iii) senectud –constreñimientos negativos–. Argumentaré que mientras la AO estimula la emergencia de novedades que son sometidas al escrutinio de la SN, la SN favorece las formas plásticas capaces de explorar nuevas configuraciones por AO. Planteamiento acorde con la TSD que explica la evolución por acomodamientos estructurales a múltiples niveles, a lo largo del desarrollo, y no por variaciones genéticas azarosas, favoreciendo un acercamiento entre el neodarwinismo y las perspectivas epigenéticas.
