Darwin como contendiente

George Jackson Mivart (1827-1900) fue un formidable oponente de Charles Robert Darwin (1809-1882) y sus acólitos, disputando la suficiencia de la Teoría de la Descendencia con Modificación por Selección Natural como respuesta a la cuestión sobre el origen de las especies. En este trabajo examinamos esta disputa entre Mivart y Darwin, y las cualidades de Darwin como contendiente que emergen de ella. Utilizamos Redes Dialécticas —un sistema diagramático— para representar las afirmaciones de ambos y sus interrelaciones. La disputa refuerza el valor de la erudición, porque ambos produjeron múltiples y diversos argumentos con ejemplos utilizando su extenso conocimiento en diferentes áreas de la biología.
